Do you have Chicken Skin? I do! I have Keratosis Pilaris aka KP on my upper arms. Keratosis Pilaris is redness and bumpiness in the cheeks or upper arms from blocked follicles. Exfoliation can help unblock follicles and alleviate the rough feeling. KP will never go away there are ways to treat it and help it to fade. KP is hereditary although some women experience it during pregnancy. For them it may go away after the baby is born or it may stay with them for life. I have had it since I was a child. Lucky Me!What to do? You need to exfoliate the area every other day and always keep your skin moisturized. Sunless tan can help the bumps to appear less noticeable. Do not confuse the clogged pores with oily skin. Your pores are clogged because your body is over producing keratin. That is what causes the hard bumps. So, you need to exfoliate to break down the keratin and then put moisture back in.
Odd product that helps is Pure Coconut Oil. Yes, the kind you can cook with! You can find organic coconut oil at a Whole Foods or the like. Apply the oil on at night right after you shower. Blot off any excess with a towel. Use this like you would a lotion.Yes to Carrots- It's made of carrot seed oil, carrot juice, pumpkin, sweet potato and Dead Sea mud. Massage into skin with warm water for 3 minutes then rinse. I like this but it's a little too gentle to stand against my KP.
Sally Hansen- Hand Revitaliser with micro crystals is made from collagen, vitamins and ceramides. 3 very good things! The "micro crystals" are small bits of pumice stone which I like very much. It's meant for dry patches on the hands but I think it's doing a great job on my arms!
I have been gently rubbing it onto my dry arms and then rinsing away. Feels like it is working.
St. Ives Replenishing Mineral Therapy- It's a light lotion made with 100% natural moisturizers. Feels good on and has a nice scent.
I must say the Coconut Oil helps a lot and I need to go get more soon. That is what I would use prior to my wedding and I was very pleased with the results. For those of you that have this skin disorder I hope my little tips helped!

This was helpful! I don't have KP but I do have pretty dry skin. I have been using 100% shea butter that I bought from a stand at the mall here in Jacksonville. It's pretty cool. I think I may try that stuff by Sally Hansen soon too! :)
Wim- I found the Sally Hansen scrub at my local Dollar Tree but I'm sure CVS or Walgreens would have it.
Hey Jill
Awesome post. I've had KP since I was 13 or so. Never really knew how to take care of it. It seems to get worse in the winter (probably because of the dryness of the air). I will have to look into these products
If you haven't checked it out already, I just posted a big giveaway. (9 MAC products, an Urban Decay Naked Palette and a cute makeup bag).

Alicia- yes, winter will aggravate it for sure! Hot humid weather helps to clear it up. I just visited your giveaway!
Jill-
This post was really helpful to me! Thanks for writing it. I've have KP for as long as I can remember. Mine's on my upper arms too and I get so self conscious about it sometimes! Also, from time to time mine will be itchy. I find that using a loofah helps w/ the exfoliation. It's funny how paranoid I am about mine, yet I've known you for years and never noticed it on your arms! Maybe it's less noticeable than I realized! :) Thanks again! - Marcia
I have had KP since I was four, so frustrating! Since I have dark colored skin it's not as noticeable, but I have embarrassing stories from when people hug me and notice, eek! I am going to go out and buy the coconut oil, I will let you know how it works!
I don't have it but I read about it over the weekend because I picked up this complection perfectoin book and it mentioned it. I love Yes to Carrots though. I just recently bought some more of their lotion.
Marcia- Nope, never noticed you had it! But I also feel so used to seeing it on myself and family members that it's not a big deal to me. Yes, a loofah works great too!
I've had it my whole life and it always bothered me. I've heard of certain products that help but I've yet to try them. I think the coconut oil might be the one I finally try. Thanks a bunch!
