Just Bitten Review

Revlon-Just Bitten in CRAVE.
I really like this shade! I was a little afraid about what color to pick. All the shades look pretty bold. So, I chose Crave which is kinda fuchsia pink. I got a little picture happy.

  • You must have super smooth lips before using a lipstain. I put exfoliator on an old tooth brush and scrub away. Rinse off. Then put on lipbalm and let it sink in before applying Just Bitten.
  • The product goes on almost like using a Sharpie marker! I worked slowly starting by lining my lips and filling in.
  • Takes a minute or so to dry. Then apply the balm, feels great!

Redhead

All about my hair! Fun, huh?! Ok, so not that fun. But I have been getting some questions about my hair. I've always had naturally wavy, red hair. I also have 3 sisters with almost the same color red as myself. One of my good friends has red hair as well. We make a fabulous group together!
Here's me and my sister Jordan with our Dad. I'm in the purple bikini. My hair was brighter and more orange when I was little.

Me at my wedding last summer. I wanted a natural look so my hair had been dye free for at least 8 months. It is more auburn red now that I'm an adult.
But sometimes I get bored! I'm a girl. That happens. So, I grab a cheap box of dye that is super close to my natural to give me some shine and oomph! As many of you know box reds fade really fast. After a few washings it's hard to tell I've even dyed my hair. My hairstylist can't ever tell where the fake red or the real red begins on my head.
Here's me a few weeks ago with freshly dyed hair. I used Revlon Colorsilk in Bright Auburn. I like it!

(my sister edited this pic of me so the color is brighter, it has already faded)

What box reds are your favorite?

Chocolate Perfection in a bowl

This little bowl was pure bliss to me! It's Chocolate Cobbler with vanilla ice cream on top. To get a bite you have to crack through the delicate cake type crust to get to the gooey chocolate! MMM, I'm telling you it's delicious.
The recipe can be found at Tasty Kitchen!

Hot Anaranjado

The color wheel is a great way to figure out how to make your pretty eyes pop! My eyes are blue so orange shades are going to give me the most contrast. But orange on the eyes can seem intimidating, right? I think orange can be very flattering when combined with other colors.
For this look, Hot Orange! I used Nyx eyeshadow pallet in Shangri-La. The set includes a peachy gold, orange and light yellow. I used all 3 together and went easy on the yellow. My eyes look brighter to me with this combination.
The liner is ELF liquid liner that I just got last week. For a cheapie liner it goes on very easily. I liked the brush.
I picked up a tube of Revlon Just Bitten. That will be my next makeup post!

New Bedding Ideas

My bedroom needs some sprucing up! There is no art on the wall or paint. I most likely won't paint since were renting. But I should go ahead and add some excitement with new bedding and make a headboard. I'm going to upholster the headboard in white or black depending on the bedding I get.

Option 1- Duvet cover and shams by West Elm. This is so gorgeous and unique to me. The room colors would be white, cream, gold and grey.

Option 2- Hologram Platinum bedding by Zgallerie. I feel like this is the more safe choice of the two. The room colors would be grey, silver and maybe plum.

I love everything Centsational Girl does with her home. I feel like I could use some of her decor ideas if I went with the platinum bedding. Look at her bedroom!

Which one would you pick if you had to?

Pregnancy Update

(our baby boy at 20 weeks)
I'm in my 20th week. Time is flying. It feels like were always busy this summer! Matt and Violet got to go with me a few days ago for the anatomy scan. So interesting! It was amazing how well we could see his face and heart. He was very active and moving around. We love him so much. His name is Zander Paul. Paul is my dad's middle name.
It's hard to believe I'm having a boy! I grew up in a house full of girls. 5 actually, counting us girls and my mom. Zander will be the first grandson on both sides of the family. Can you say ROTTEN?! Kidding, I hope he's not.

How I'm feeling at 20 weeks-

  • sleepy. I try to get a nap everyday.
  • my bump is definitely showing.
  • wearing maternity clothes.
  • stuffy and swollen nose.
  • gained around 10 pounds so far.

Feels good to have 20 weeks behind me!

Pizza Bagels

Cheap, Easy, Delicious!
When I was strictly counting calories I made english muffin pizzas all the time. How did I forget about these? Violet loves pizza bagels and I think they are pricey for a tiny box. Just make your pizza and put in the toaster oven until hot and bubbly.
Price Rundown-
Pizza Sauce- 1.oo
6 Bagles- 2.00
cheese- 2.00
pepperoni- 2.00
= 7.00 will make 12 pizza bagels that are like 3x's bigger than the box kind. Yes!

My Vintage Angels

I started collecting vintage angels and Christmas figurines a couple years ago. My mom has been collecting the Christmas stuff forever! Check some of her favorites out.

I got these 3 Holt Howard-1958 carolers for my birthday from my mom in law. They are all candle holders. So cute! Can't wait for Christmas to put them out for display.

I got this November Angel last Christmas from my parents.

And this is Poppy August.

I keep the the Birthday Girls/Angels year round on a small tray in my bedroom. Here's a link to some more of my collection!

These are fun to collect since they are small and hard to spy in Antique Malls. Etsy and Ebay have so many to choose from! Just gotta make sure your not buying one with a repainted face or broken wings.

Comfort Food Must Include Gravy

Last week I could not get the thought of mashed potatoes and gravy outta my head! It was such a strong craving that I almost wanted to go to Luby's to get some quick. But my husband refused to eat at the old people place. That's how it is to be pregnant. and how I am all the time. So, I put baked chicken of some sort with mashed potatoes and gravy on my meal planner.
I don't use a recipe for mashed potatoes but butter and sour cream is always used. I looked at a few baked chicken recipes and chose this one. It was supposed to be baked with gravy and rice. So, I changed it up.
Buttermilk Baked Chicken adapted from TastyKitchen-
1/4 c. butter
4 chicken breast or 8 tenders
1/2 tsp. salt and pepper
1/2 c. buttermilk
3/4 c. flour, seasoned if you like. I used a sprinkle of garlic and onion powder.
Preheat oven to 425. (yes, I'm insane to use that high a temp in my hot,Tx kitchen) Melt the butter. Then spread in a baking dish.
Sprinkle chicken with salt & pepper. Dip in buttermilk and then roll in flour mixture.
Bake chicken for 20-25 min. then flip and bake for 10 more. To get a crispy texture you might need to broil the last few minutes.
I made gravy with some cream of mushroom like the original recipe and it was ok. I prefer making gravy from scratch on the stovetop.
But the chicken and mashed potatoes were so good together! I heated up a bag of frozen broccoli cheese to have something healthy, :) Will make again.

Our Birthday

Me right before dinner. At 5 months I'm already getting the swollen, pregnant nose! But my hair is nice and shiny from the prenatals.
Mattie with his fave drink- mojito.
Matt ordered Mahi Mahi fish taco plate.
I got Cajun Chicken, mashed potatoes and corn.

We shared a slice of White Chocolate Macademia Cheesecake! And yes the waiters sang to us and I didn't mind. Glad I'm not 15 anymore.
Taking a picture outside.

We went to Cheesecake Factory with both sides of our family. 2 of my sisters were missing due to work and school. It was a great 27th birthday for me!

Monday Makeup-Elf Hypershine Gloss

Look what I found at Target! A whole section of ELF makeup. I got the Hypershine Gloss and liquid liner to try. I applied a light coat of concealer and then swiped on each gloss straight from the tube. Honestly they all look alike to me!

Shade-3037-1,pearly pink
Shade-3037-2, darker pink

And 3037-3,kinda orange. My Violet had to put some on as well.
I like the texture which is not sticky. Just a little slippery. I'm sure I will be using these a lot on lazy makeup days. Next time I want to try the eyeshadow color books. Are they any good?

Happy Birthday To Us!

(mini cakes I made Jaley last year)
July 2008-on vaca in San Diego and first real trip together.

It's our birthday, yay! It's pretty odd sharing a birthday with my husband but fun. We are exactly 6 years apart. (he's older) He took me shopping and surprised me with a few things. I also got a pedicure and manicure. I got him a dress shirt and tie for work. My mom gave me the purse I picked out and new makeup brushes. I had to give the low down on some gifts, right? For dinner were meeting up with both sides of our family.

Good Times!

Aubergine is Dreamy

Inside Lighting.(oops, forgot to conceal my freckle on my forehead)
Outside in the shade. I need to wax my brows badly.

This is one of my favorite colors to use ever! Aubergine color eyeshadows looks really nice on green or blue eyes. I'm sure this look would work with brown eyes as well and maybe make them look more green.
Face-
Revlon PhotoReady in 004Nude
My Spots are Concealed concealer in light
Rosy Pink blush
Eyes in this order-
Filled in brows
Revlon Wild Orchids creme shadow, lightest shade all over
Amethyst purple shadow in crease
Deeper navy/purple shadow dabbed on outer edge crease
Shimmery whitish pink on highlight and soften the edges up
Berry Purple by Jane eyeliner on top
black liner on bottom
mascara
Lips- Jordana easyliner in Baby Berry, blend in with lipbrush
Body Shop Watermelon lip balm,blot
then dab on the shimmery white/pink shadow on top
Hopefully this made sense. I use all sorts of brands of makeup. I love Mac foundation but don't want to waste it during the hot months right now. It will just sweat off! I will try to start doing a makeup look once a week. So, stay tuned!

Picture Gallery

This wall is in our living room. We finally filled all the frames we had grouped together! The huge frame was empty for months. I found that frame at Goodwill for 5.00! The sticker from Michael's on the back was still there for 35.00. I lovee good deals. The glass was missing and that's why it was empty for so long.
My nice husband went to Lowe's and got glass cut to fit the frame. So happy it's done! Almost all of these frames were spray painted Heirloom White to have a cohesive look. We still have space left on the sides to add a few more. I'm saving a special spot for a picture of our little boy on the way.
I did a blog a while back about the watercolor paintings here.
Younghouselove has a simple tutorial on how to hang your frames. You should check them out!

Messy Desk

Desk Before- This is our office/throw all extra's in there room! My husband's work stuff was all over the place.

Desk After! Ahhh, much cleaner. I found those white boxes half off at Hobby Lobby to hide stuff. I need more of those for other rooms. Then I scrubbed the glass clean. This setup will work for now.
Tied a ribbon around an old salsa jar to hold pens.

This room still needs more organizing. The other half is used as an art/play area for our daughter. That's next on the To-Do List!

Lips and a bulky necklace

We went on a date last weekend for our One year anniversary. It's hard to find flattering clothes when your pregnant! I opted for a large and flowy tank top with a bulky necklace. I searched the mall over and couldn't find the shade of teal that I wanted and then found this necklace at Cato. Score!
On Kandee's blog recently she did a tutorial on hot pink lips by blending red with pink. I tried to recreate the look using lipliners I already own. Obviously my pink was not hot enough and my red was not bold enough. Because I wound up with neutral pink lips. I think I will try again this friday for a friend's birthday dinner. Here's the tutorial link here.

Violet's Third Birthday Party

Violet LOVES Nihao Kailan. So, I tried to use the show for inspiration without going too cartoon-ish. Everything I used was very affordable. I got frames from dollar tree and painted them to match the table runner. We framed a picture that was also used on her invites and some of her playing in a tutu.
I found the bright dot/flower shape fabric on sale and glass vases at Hobby Lobby. The paper chinese lanterns were found at Dollar Tree and Michael's. I think they would look great displayed above a crib or child's bed. The small potted flowers were leftover from my bridal shower last year. I kept it very simple!
